Jack Lloyd, of Wingfield Close in Ditherington, Shrewsbury, admitted four counts of criminal damage and one of theft at Telford Magistrates Court yesterday.

28-year-old Lloyd pleaded guilty to the charges, as well as breaking a conditional discharge he was on at the time from previous shoplifting offences.

Prosecuting, Miss Abigail Hall said: "On April 22, two complainants were in an address on Wingfield Close who were in the lounge.

"They heard a loud bang and someone shouting and then went to the door. They witnessed the defendant kick the side wing mirror off a car and saw it fall to the gloor.

"He then walked down the road and kicked the other cars, carrying on down the road shouting and swearing."

The court heard Lloyd later returned to one of the complainants to apologise and offered to pay for the damage.

But when he was told the police were on their way, he became angry and began shouting again.

Miss Hall added: "He was arrested and then also arrested for the outstanding theft of two sticks of mascara.

"He admitted he had taken the two mascaras and concealed them before leaving the store. He had been to steal them and then sell them so he could afford to go out at the weekend."

Lloyd was handed a six month community order and ordered to take part in 10 rehabilitation activity requirement days.

He was also told to pay £850 compensation to the owners of vehicles, £16 to Rowlands Pharmacy, as well as a fine of £100, court costs of £135 and a victim surcharge of £85.

He was given a fresh conditional discharge of 12 months.

Chairman of the bench, Judith Coleman said: "If you keep out of trouble for a period of 12 months, you will hear no more about these offences.

"If you are back before the courts you will be sentenced, and because we have already shown lenience today the sentence will be much stiffer next time."
