Louise Weir was pulled over in Newport after police received reports that there was a suspected drink-drive incident around the Church Aston area, Telford Magistrates Court heard.

Mr Adam Warner, prosecuting, said police officers saw a Volvo, being driven along Granville Avenue, which was veering from left to right and braking without cause. The vehicle turned into Audley Avenue where it was stopped by officer and 50-year-old Weir was spoken to.

Mr Warner told the court officer recorded she was slurring her speech and had a cut to her eyebrow which was bleeding profusely.

She was arrested and taken to Telford’s Princess Royal Hospital for treatment, before being taken to Malinsgate police station.

Weir was breathalysed and gave a reading of having 79 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath.

The legal limit is 35mg.

Weir, of Hillside, Lilleshall, pleaded guilty to driving while over the drink-drive limit on April 29.

Mr Tom Wheeler, representing Weir, said she had been at her brother’s house earlier in the day to have some drinks and eat a meal.

He told the court that she got into an argument with her boyfriend afterwards and could not recall how she suffered her injury.

Mr Wheeler told magistrates: “She has no recollection of the events.

“She was found in a vehicle with a cut.”

Weir, who is currently training to be a teaching assistant, was banned from driving for 17 months.

She was also fined £110 and ordered to pay £135 costs and £30 victim surcharge.
