Police are appealing for information following reports of a theft from St Peter's and St Paul's Church.

Officers said the theft happened at about 10am on Monday.

Paul Roberts, spokesman for West Mercia Police, said: "A church warden attempted to enter the building shortly before 10am only to find the front door jammed. Upon entering through another door, she saw a man inside the church and spoke to him.

"The front door had been jammed shut with a suspected bladed item, which the man grabbed off the warden as she attempted to remove it from the door.

"He then left the church with his bike, at which point the warden noticed the padlock to the collection tin had been broken and an unknown amount of money taken from within.

"The man is described as white, around 50-years-old, 6ft tall, well built and of pale complexion. He is further described as having balding hair and being clean shaven, wearing brown clothing and knee length shorts with trainers."

Anyone with information or anybody who may have noticed a man acting suspiciously in the area between 9am and 10am is asked to call police on 101, quoting incident number 187s of May 31. Alternatively, contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111 or at crimestoppers-uk.org
