'It's just disgusting and shocking': Family's appeal after 'brutal' attack on pensioner in home
The family of a pensioner who was brutally attacked in her own home have made a fresh appeal for information to catch the culprits.
She was taken to hospital after the attack and has since been discharged.
Her nephew, Mervyn Lloyd Jones, said the family were disgusted by the brutal and “sickening” attack, and appealed for the public to help trace the people who did it.
He said: “It is just disgusting and shocking, you don’t expect something like this in a little town.
“We don’t want this to happen to anyone else’s family, that is why we are appealing to the public for any information.
“She was beaten up, black and blue. She had broken her arm but was out of hospital in two days.
“Somebody out there knows something about this, and we want them to be caught.
“It is sickening, there are some sick people about, and we hope the public can help in catching them.”
Mr Lloyd Jones, of Lower Brimmon Farm, has been in the news in recent years in his bid to save the 500-year-old Brimmon Oak Tree on his land from being felled by the £56 million Newtown Bypass construction.
He was successful, and forced the contractors to bend the path of the bypass to save the tree following a long campaign.
He credited a lot of the campaign to his Auntie Blanche, who he said was the driving force behind it.
He added: “When we had the major issue with the bypass, Auntie Blanche was an inspiration and a driving force in saving the tree. We just want to find who has done this to her.”
County councillor for Newtown East, Councillor Joy Jones has condemned the ‘cowardly’ act.
She said: “It is dreadful news, it isn’t the sort of thing that should be happening in this area, it is awful.
“People should be able to walk the streets and should be safe, and be safe in their own homes.
“I feel very, very sorry for the victim and I hope she is okay and makes a fully recovery.”
Councillor Jones hopes that ‘the book is thrown’ at the culprits of the offence.
She added: “It is absolutely disgusting, and shame on anyone who thought they could do this to somebody, especially to an elderly person.”
“I hope they get caught, and the sooner the better, and I hope they have the book thrown at them.”
A spokesperson from Dyfed Powys Police confirmed an investigation into the incident is still ongoing and urged people with information to call 101.
They are also keen to speak to anyone with a dashboard camera who was driving along Upper Dolfor Road between 9am and 5pm.
