Burglars hit Telford pub in 'sickening' raid stealing £3,000 from safe
Burglars have broken into a Telford pub while the owners were sleeping and stole up to £3,000 from a safe.
The All Nations Inn, in Coalport Road, Madeley, was broken into in the early hours of Sunday morning.
Owner Jim Birtwhistle woke up to find doors and windows open, as well as the safe where the cash was kept.
He said: "We were broken into some time between 2am and 8am on Sunday morning.
"The burglars stole about £2,500 in cash and then £500 in change in £1s and 50ps.
"I woke up to find the door which usually is shut was open and the safe door was open and the kitchen windows were wide open.
"I have no idea how they got in, the windows were shut the night before and checked by a members of staff.
"My wife Linda and I have been the owners here since 2002 and nothing like this has happened before.
"It was a bit sickening, I work very hard to try and keep the business and to have somebody take away a whole day's work from about six different people working all day is upsetting for the staff."
Laura Maltby, spokeswoman for West Mercia Police, said: "Police were called to a premises on Coalport Road in Madeley at around 8.30am on Sunday following a report of a burglary.
"Unknown offender or offenders are believed to have entered a window at the rear of the premises sometime between 2am and 8am.
"A quantity of cash was taken from a safe.
"Enquiries are currently ongoing and officers would like anyone who was in the area or who witnessed people acting suspiciously at the time to come forward."
