Police welcome Shropshire child sex pervert's jail term
The jailing of a Shropshire man for possessing the most extreme images of child abuse shows the "severity" of his offences, according to police.
He had previously admitted three separate charges of making indecent images of children.
Today, an inspector from West Mercia Police said offending against children will not be tolerated by the force.
Detective Inspector Nicola Roberts said “The length of Mr Beesley's sentence rightly reflects the severity of the offences he has committed and will hopefully provide reassurance to the public that offending against children will not be tolerated, that West Mercia Police will pursue the offenders and the judicial system will administer punishment proportionate to the offence.”
The jury convicted Beesley, 39, of Brookfield Close in Weston Rhyn, near Oswestry, of making 101 indecent images of children in category A – the most serious – and two separate charges of taking an indecent photo of a child, namely a category C moving image.
The charges admitted prior to trial were making an indecent photo of a child in category C, making an indecent photo of a child with 85 images in Category B, and making indecent photos of a child with 11,873 in category C.
The images were found when police visited his home on December 5, 2016. Police also discovered two videos on his mobile phone in which he had recorded two children.
The court heard that the children were clothed and that the videos had been almost immediately deleted but that they had not been appropriate.
Beesley has been an environmental officer at Wrexham County Borough Council for 10 years, but is currently suspended.
He will remain on the sex offenders register for life.
