Large amount of cash stolen in raid on Co-op petrol station in Ludlow

Burglars who targeted a Ludlow petrol station made off with a large amount of cash, police revealed today.

Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

Officers were called on Sunday morning after a break-in at the Midcounties Co-op on Sheet Road. Burglars had entered the petrol station and targeted a stand alone ATM machine, which they broke in to and then removed a large amount of money. They then fled the scene.

It is thought that the burglary happened between 11pm on Saturday and 3.45am on Sunday. Police are now conducting door-to-door enquiries and extra patrols are being carried out in the area.

Detective Constable, Nia Ward of West Mercia Police, said: "A thorough investigation is underway and officers are conducting extensive enquiries in order to locate the offenders.

"We would like to hear from anyone who has information about this incident, or who may have seen any suspicious activity in the area at the time.

"House-to-house enquiries are being conducted and there will be additional patrols in the area."

The petrol station was closed for part of Sunday while police officers and scene of crime officers examined the scene.
