The cash was dropped in Home Bargains, Donnington, on July 27, at 3.36pm. A 57-year-old woman came forward to help police with their enquiries after CCTV stills were released.

She was interviewed but investigations remain ongoing. The victim, aged 53, from the Telford area, had planned to take the money to the bank but had not notice it had fallen out of her pocket until after she had completed her shopping.

Shortly afterwards, she returned to the shop but the money had already been taken.

“For all they could know, I was going to pay for a medical bill or something really serious like that,” the victim said.

“I try not to carry cash around with me anymore. I just use bank cards.

“Any money I have to carry, I give it to my son. I just don’t feel like I can take responsibility for it.

“I had just been told by my mum that my dad has the start of Alzheimer’s. I don’t think my head was on my shoulders at the time. A few years ago I had a stroke.

“I’m at hospital because of stress, not just because of this but it certainly hasn’t helped.”
