Archie Spriggs: Family say they are 'devastated' by seven-year-old's death
The family of Archie Spriggs have said they are "devastated" by the death of the seven-year-old at his home near Church Stretton.
Archie was found dead at a home on Rushbury Road in Wall under Heywood on Thursday evening.
His mother Lesley Speed, 44, has been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in hospital where she is receiving medical treatment for 'significant injuries to her neck and arm'.
Her injuries are not thought to be life-threatening. Police have said detectives are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident.
Formal identification has now taken place and Archie's family have released the following statement: "Archie's father, step-mum, brother and family are facing challenging times and would like to ask for our privacy to be respected while we come to terms with this devastating loss."
The cause of death of Archie's death has not been confirmed.
It is understood that Archie was found fatally injured at around 6pm by his older brother Zack who called the emergency services.
Police and paramedics made desperate efforts to save the little boy but, despite their best efforts, Archie was declared dead at the house.
The community have been paying tribute to Archie since the tragedy.
The headteacher of Rushbury CE Primary School, where Archie was a pupil, said he was a "wonderful, bubbly boy".
A service of reflection was held at St Peter's Church in Rushbury yesterday, where candles were lit in Archie's memory.
One person who knew the family said he was aware of problems within the home. "There was trouble there," he said.
The Rev Nancy Cleaton, from the church, said Archie was a "valued member of the school and community".
Mayor of Church Stretton Michael Braid said his thoughts were with the family and that Archie's death was a "real shock" for the community.
