Cyclist and elderly woman killed in crashes

Cyclist and an elderly woman have been killed in two crashes in Mid Wales over the weekend.

A 70-year-old woman died after two cars crashed on the A470 between Cemmaes and Llanbrynmair at 11.50pm on Saturday night.

The woman was driving a Skoda, and the two passengers in the car and the driver of a silver Mazda were taken to hospital.

The road was closed for several hours while investigation took place.

Anyone who witnessed the crash, or was travelling on the road around this time, is asked to report information by calling 101 quoting reference 409 of September 23.

Less than 12 hours earlier a 44-year-old cyclist died after being crashing with a Black Mercedes on the A470 between Rhayader and Llangurig.

The motorcycle was travelling north, towards Llangurig, the van was travelling in the opposite direction, towards Rhayader.

An air ambulance attended and the road was closed for several hours.
