Anger as sign stolen from Newport road still not replaced

Residents in a Newport cul-de-sac are up in arms after being left without a street sign for 10 months.

The sign, telling people they were in Snows Court, was stolen back in January and people living there say the lack of sign is causing problems.

Roy Scannell said he needs regular non-emergency ambulance transport for health problems, but that drivers struggle to find his home.

The 78-year-old said he has called Telford & Wrekin Council numerous times and been in contact with Newport councillors, but is still waiting.

Today Telford & Wrekin Council said there were plans in place to replace the sign – but that it could take up to eight weeks for the work to be done.

Mr Scannell said: "We've waited months, made several calls and it has still not been replaced.

"There are four cul-de-sacs down here and people can come up and very easily go down the wrong one.

"There are quite frequently ambulances down Snows Court and I have had drivers knocking on my door asking the way to Snows Court.

"I have also ordered things and delivery drivers again have to ask where they are."

Monica Floristean, of Telford & Wrekin Council, said that a large number of signs are vandalised or stolen each year.

"We are aware of this situation and there are plans to replace this sign in the next six to eight weeks," she said.

"Unfortunately there are a large number of signs that get damage or removed and we undertake a programme of maintenance to pick up such signs throughout the year."
