Crystal meth and cannabis found in Powys police raids
Cannabis and crystal meth was discovered in Powys last week as police carried out a host of drug warrants and stop searches.
As part of the Dyfed-Powys Police force day of action a total of 13 warrants were executed, with four carried out in Newtown under the misuse of drugs act.
Following a warrant executed at Orchid Walk in Newtown, Jonathan James Mitchell, 27, was charged with possession of cannabis and will appear before Welshpool Magistrates Court later this month.
Another warrant saw 125 grammes of herbal cannabis found, and a 31-year-old man was released under investigation, with a 27-year-old man released under investigation after a quantity of cannabis and a wrap of power was found at Falcon Court, Maesyrhandir,
A 20-year-old man was also issued with a penalty notice for disorder after seven wraps of cannabis were found at Cwrt Eglwys.
There was also a hi-visibility policing presence in Newtown town centre, with officers targeting known drug dealers and users on the day of action last week.
Powys BCU commander Superintendent Jon Cummins said: “The day of action proved successful in cutting down on the use of drugs in the Powys division and taking a significant amount of controlled substances off our streets.
“Through thorough investigative work, intelligence gathering and community members sharing their concerns with officers in north Powys, we’ve been able to conduct these warrants, helping remove drugs from the streets and sending out a clear message that we take a zero tolerance approach to the misuse and supply of drugs in Dyfed-Powys.
"We are committed to safeguarding our communities from this kind of behaviour."
Elsewhere in the county, two warrants were carried out in Welshpool with cannabis found at both properties.
A 31-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply cannabis, and was been released under investigation.
Two warrants in Llandrindod Wells led to the discovery of crystal meth and the cultivation of cannabis, with a final warrant in Llanymynech executed, but no drugs were found.
