Warning over unsolicited callers after Telford burglary

Telford police are warning people to be alert over unsolicited calls, after a burglary at a house in Priorslee.

People in Priorslee have raised concerns with police about visits from unsolicited tradespeople earlier this week.

Police say that while the majority of tradespeople are legitimate, residents have been asked to be on the lookout for callers offering services such as window cleaning or hedge trimming.

Officers say they may not give the appearance of being a bona fide trader and may be accompanied by others in high performance cars parked nearby.

If anyone is concerned about the authenticity of a caller, police advice is to ask for some form of identification and if they purport to represent a company then to call that company to confirm it is one of their employees using a telephone number available from Directory Enquiries or the internet, and not necessarily one on a business card or flyer they may have with them.

If residents are still not sure, or have suspicions about people or high powered cars loitering in their street that appear out of place, they can report those concerns to the police by calling 101.

It comes as police are investigating a burglary in Priorslee.

A house on Eltham Drive was targeted on Tuesday between 5pm and 5.30pm. Offenders forced their way into the rear of the property, but nothing is believed to have been taken.

Anyone with information about the crime should call 101, quoting reference number 545S of October 17.
