MP speaks out over police budget
A Wolverhampton MP has spoken out over cuts to the policing budget and the rise in crime in the region.
MP for Wolverhampton South East, Pat McFadden, spoke at the House of Commons yesterday (Tues) on Government cuts to policing and the impact he says this is having on crime levels in the West Midlands.
Now, the MP is appealing to the Chancellor the Exchequer, the Rt Hon Philip Hammond MP, to look to deliver 'fair funding' for the police in his next budget announcement. The Autumn budget statement is due to be delivered on November 22.
Speaking of his concerns, MP McFadden, said: "I am increasingly concerned at the levels of crime and vandalism we are seeing.
"The latest figures show recorded crime up 14 per cent in the West Midlands and we have lost 2,000 police officers in recent years.
"I spoke in Parliament yesterday drawing attention to these figures and have appealed to the Chancellor to ensure fair funding for the police in his forthcoming budget."
