Girl seriously injured as 20 people involved in Telford estate row

A teenage girl suffered serious injuries in an incident involving up to 20 people, police have revealed.

Detective Inspector Billy Scott said that a 33-year-old man had been arrested after the incident, which took place at Wigmores on the Woodside housing estate in Telford.

DI Scott said that the disturbance took place on a path going through the estate at around 9.20pm last night.

The police are now appealing for anyone with information about the incident to come forward.

DI Scott also moved to reassure people living in the area that West Mercia Police are taking the matter seriously and have increased the number of patrols as a result.

The 33-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of affray and remains in police custody.

The girl was taken to hospital where she is being treated for what were described as "serious head injuries".

DI Scott said: "We believe that those involved in the incident are all known to each other. However, we're keen to reassure local residents that we're taking the matter very seriously, and we'll be increasing police patrols in the area.

"It's really important that anyone who was around the Woodside Estate at the time of the disturbance comes forward with information that will help our investigation.

"It occurred on a public street at a time of night when many locals will have been walking or driving past - even the smallest piece of information could be vital."
