Four in court on assault charges after double Shrewsbury stabbing

Four men appeared in court on assault charges today after two men were stabbed in the early hours of New Year's Day near Shrewsbury's Buttermarket nightclub.

The incident took place at around 3.20am close to The Buttermarket, on Howard's Bank, and left two men, aged 21 and 18 injured and needing hospital treatment. They have now both been discharged.

Two other people were also treated for injuries sustained in the incident.

Six men from outside the Shrewsbury area were originally arrested and while two were released with no further action, four have now been charged and appeared at Telford Magistrates Court today.

All four of them have been remanded in custody for their next bail hearing.

They will appear at Shrewsbury Crown Court on February 5.

Rommell Holding, 27, of West Boulevard, Birmingham, is charged with assault causing grievous bodily harm, assault causing actual bodily harm and affray.

Cain Kirlew, 21 of Fieldhouse Road, Birmingham, is charged with three counts of causing grievous bodily harm, assault causing actual bodily harm and affray.

Errol Kirlew, 28, of Fieldhouse Road, Birmingham, is charged with three counts of causing grievous bodily harm, assault causing actual bodily harm and affray.

Dominic Stagg, 27, of Culford Drive, Birmingham. Stagg is charged with assault causing grievous bodily harm, assault causing actual bodily harm and affray. He is also accused of dangerous driving, drink driving and possession of cannabis.
