Revealed: Threat to kill among 39 Christmas Day domestic violence cases for West Mercia Police
The police force that covers Shropshire dealt with 39 domestic violence incidents on Christmas Day – including one threat to kill.
Figures released today reveals the extent of violence in homes over the Christmas period, when families are thrown together and alcohol can become an issue.
Other domestic violence incidents West Mercia Police were called to on December 25 include 15 incidents of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and nine incidents of common assault and battery.
The figures, released through a Freedom of Information request, covers the 24 hours of December 25 last year.
West Mercia Police revealed there were also four cases of harassment without violence, four cases of criminal damage which caused less than £5,000 damage, two of which were to a home.
Police were called out to two reports of sending malicious communications with intent to cause distress or anxiety, one incident of fear or provocation of violence, and one theft from a home.
There was one incident of affray, one incident of wounding with intent to do grievous bodily harm and one threat to kill.
Of the 39 domestic violence incidents police dealt with on Christmas Day, there were 15 arrests.
There were 29 female victims, nine male victims, and one gender was not recorded.
Also, 33 of the suspects were male, five were female and one gender was not recorded.
The youngest victim was 19, while the oldest was 75 and the average age of the victims was 38 years old.
