Arrests as armed police swoop in Oswestry
Two men and two women were arrested in an armed police swoop in Oswestry.
The suspects were tackled to the ground on Salop Road, near the B&M store, at about 6.30pm on Friday.
Officers armed with guns were stationed on the pavement next to the Penda Retail Park car park.
Witnesses said the suspects were seen being taken away from a Mercedes by the armed response team from North Wales.
West Mercia Police later released a statement confirming the arrests were in relation to a serious assault in Wrexham.
The statement said: "Residents in Oswestry may have seen firearms officers in Salop Road in the town.
"This was North Wales Police who were carrying out arrests in connection with a serious assault in the Wrexham area earlier this week.
"During the course of North Wales Police enquiries a vehicle travelled into the Oswestry area where it was subsequently stopped by North Wales Police.
"Two men and two women have been arrested in connection with the incident.
"It is not unusual for another force to come into the West Mercia Police area to carry out checks in relation to incidents in their own area and there are procedures in place to allow for cross border working between all forces."
