A police investigation is ongoing after Dyfed-Powys officers stopped the cars on Sunday, near to Coleg Powys on the A483 just outside Newtown.

The force said it had received a number of complaints earlier in the day about the manner the cars were driven in the Llanidloes area.

All of the drivers were given official warnings for anti-social driving, and two cars were reported for number plate offences.

Officers from Dyfed-Powys Police are still investigating the incident, and a spokeswoman for the force said: "We received a report concerning the manner of driving of the cars in Llanidloes, and stopped them in Newtown. All drivers were given official driver warnings for anti-social driving.

"Two cars were reported for number plate offences and they were all spoken to about their driving. The investigation is ongoing.

Newtown's Road Policing Team tweeted a picture of the six high-powered cars stopped in a lay by near to Newtown, and warned that racing is for the track and not the road.

The policing team tweeted: "6 Mercedes stopped following numerous complaints about their manner of driving. Racing is for the track not the highway."

Operation Darwen is an all-Wales campaign adopted by Dyfed-Powys Police which runs from Spring through until the autumn and is aimed at motorcycle safety and reducing casualties on the roads.
