The damaged Lady Victoria duck had to be removed

The ducks make up part of a heritage trail in the town, and today borough councillor Nicola Lowery called for anybody with information to come forward.

The duck, which had been dubbed Lady Victoria, had been dragged along the ground just hours after it was unveiled.

Councillor Lowery said: “We are devastated and it’s heartbreaking to see this happen given the amount of time and effort that so many have put into this project.

"Over the weekend many members of the community and visitors were out in the sunshine enjoying the arts trail and many in the community have expressed their disappointment on why someone would vandalise these beautifully painted ducks that are there to put a smile on people’s faces and raise money for charity.

"It’s disgraceful that someone would do this and I would encourage anyone with information on this to contact the police."

Anybody with information is asked to call police on 101. Alternatively, contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111 or at crimestoppers-uk.org
