Campaign launched to tackle local crime
West Mercia Police's bosses are raising awareness of the county's local policing teams, in an effort to tackle specific concerns.
Each community in Shropshire has a local policing team which aims to work with residents and partner organisations to tackle issues that arise.
And now the police force has launched a campaign to raise awareness of the county's Safer Neighbourhood Teams, to ensure that all communities have easy access to local police officers.
Leaflets are being distributed within local communities to explain the services provided by Safer Neighbourhood Teams and giving contact details so that anyone who needs advice or policing support can contact their local police officers.
This information is also being made available at front counters at police stations.
The campaign supports West Mercia Police’s ongoing work to improve the services provided to communities, including investment in technology to help local policing officers to be more available and visible on the streets.
The aim of this is to make it easier for people to contact the police when they need help and ensuring that everyone that needs help receives the right support as quickly as possible.
West Mercia Police Assistant Chief Constable Martin Evans said: “West Mercia Police is committed to having local officers working locally with partners to help and support our communities."
Superintendent for Telford and Wrekin, Tom Harding, encouraged residents wanting advice on reducing crime to contact the safer neighbourhood teams directly to make an appointment.
He said: “Our safer neighbourhood teams are based locally in stations around West Mercia and focus on matters that are important to each local community.
"I would encourage anyone needing advice on reducing crime and protecting themselves, their family and property, to contact our teams directly to make an appointment.
"Individual contact details are visible in our front counters, making our staff accessible to all.”
To report a crime call 101 or in an emergency always call 999.
