'Mauled to death': Alsatian savages sleeping pet in Telford family's home
A dog had to be put down after an Alsatian forced its way into a Telford family’s home and attacked it.
Vets said Bo, a small Tibetan spaniel lap dog, suffered horrendous bite wounds, a broken spine and a fractured pelvis.
The Alsatian entered the house in Clydesdale Drive, Horsehay, to carry out the attack.
Bo was asleep in his kitchen basket when the larger dog pounced on him.
Its owner Ryan Drewnicki, aged 40, said: “My wife was outside mowing the lawn when she saw the dog scale our fence and proceed to tear my little dog to bits.
“She ran after it screaming and got bitten trying to get the dog off Bo. The owner then came in and even he struggled to control it.”
The three-year-old lapdog belonged to Mr Drewnicki’s eight-year-old daughter who was not there at the time.
“She’s beside herself. We couldn’t tell her what happened. We told her he died in his sleep,” he added. “He was hunted down and mauled to death.”
The attack by the Alsatian, which is not on the dangerous breeds list, has been reported to police.
West Mercia Police confirmed it was investigating.
Bo was taken to Vets4Pets, where he was examined before being put down.
Marian Peters, practice manager at Vets4Pets, said: “We see a lot of horrible injuries here and every one of us was moved by what we saw.
“We did everything we could but a bite from a German Shepherd into a three-kilo dog has a huge impact.
“I dread to think what could have happened had the daughter been involved as well. To think something like this can happen in your own home – my heart goes out to the family.”
