Woman raped in Newport pub toilet

A woman was raped in a pub toilet over the bank holiday weekend.

The attack happened at the New Inn, Newport, at about 11pm on Sunday, West Mercia Police said.

Officers believe the man responsible was aged in his early 50s and are appealing for anyone who was in the Joule's Brewery pub and took photos to come forward.

Police spokesman Alex Gale said the rape happened in the disabled toilet of the pub, which is on the corner of the crossroads where Stafford Road meets Audley Road.

Police are asking for people who took photos in the New Inn on Sunday evening to contact them

Anybody who saw a man described as white, around 5ft 8in tall with stubble, green eyes and slicked back hair swept to the right is urged to get in touch.

"The man is described as being quite well maintained of average build with fairly tanned skin, but gaunt in appearance," the statement continued.

"He was wearing denim blue jeans and a bright green pinstriped shirt.

"Officers investigating the incident are also appealing for anyone who was in the premises who may have taken photos of anyone else there that evening to get in touch.

"If you have any information that you think may help please contact the police on 101 quoting incident number 005S of 28 May."
