Deceitful driver tried to con his way out of speeding points
A deceitful driver caught speeding in the Black Country has been jailed after trying to con his way out of penalty points.
Gary Green's Audi was clocked travelling at 39mph in a 30mph zone on Manor Lane, Halesowen, last August but the 51-year-old said he was a motor trader and had already flogged the car at that point.
However, the name and address he provided to police didn’t exist and further investigation revealed Green had re-registered the car to himself under a slightly different identity.
Green then produced a false receipt to say he bought the Audi back weeks after the speeding offence and even when clear CCTV showed him behind the wheel he suddenly remembered collecting the car to have it MOT’d, then having a window repaired for the customer.
When asked to provide documents to check other vehicles he had allegedly bought and sold he eventually provided a receipt book.
But officers believed the perforations on the pages did not appear to marry up with the book – which was backed up by forensic examination.
Green, from Abbey Close, Bromsgrove, pleaded guilty to perverting the course of justice and was jailed for six months at Wolverhampton Crown Court.
