Telford murder probe: Tributes paid to 'fab dad' Derek Whyteside, 42

A man who died after being attacking in Telford has been named as Derek Whyteside.

The 42-year-old, of Chesterfield Road, Dawley. was today described as loveable, cheeky and a "fab dad" by his family.

He was found unconscious in Withywood Drive, Malinslee, at around 4.30pm on Monday and was taken to hospital, but died of his injuries.

In a tribute, those who knew Derek said: "He was a nice guy, he was loveable and could always see the best in people and if he considered you a friend he would strive never to let you down. He would always be there for you and was very proud of his extended family.

"He was a fab dad to his partner's children, very protective, cheeky and loving and always meant well. He was Michelle's world and was so good to her. He was a great brother too.

"We can't understand why anyone would do this."

The tribute comes after a 16-year-old boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was set to appear in magistrates court charged with his murder.

Six people were arrested in relation to the attack.

Two men arrested in connection with the attack in Withywood Drive, Malinslee, have been released on police bail. A woman and two other teenage boys have been released under investigation.

Enquiries into the man’s death are ongoing and police are continuing to appeal for witnesses.

Increased patrols will be carried out in the area to offer reassurance to the local community.

The investigation is being led by Detective Inspector Mark Bellamy from West Mercia Police's Major Investigation Unit.

He said: "Our thoughts are with the family at this time and we offer them our deepest sympathy, we continue to have specially trained officers offering them support and will continue to do so throughout our investigation."
