"There were a lot of people out there that morning and they watched and saw what happened.

"It was a brutal and senseless attack that has taken my son from me and destroyed me."

The mother of murdered Bridgnorth factory worker Tom Kirwan fought back tears as she made a desperate plea to catch his killer on BBC's Crimewatch Roadshow.

The knowledge of her son's killer being free has plagued Emer Kirwan for six years and she has now launched a fresh appeal for information which could bring the culprit to justice at last.

Tom, 23, who worked at Bridgnorth Aluminium, was stabbed to death outside the Uberra Club in Wolverhampton in 2012 after violence flared between groups of revellers.

A £20,000 reward has been put up for information which leads to a conviction.

An emotional Mrs Kirwan recalled the moment she was told by Tom's brother Brookyn he had been stabbed.

She said: "I was with Tom that night till three o'clock in the morning, my shoes were killing me and I went home and he was enjoying himself, he was happy.

"I was not long in bed, I had a phone call off Brooklyn hysterical saying Tom’s been stabbed you need to get to the hospital and I knew then something terrible had happened.

"I just felt it and when I got to the hospital I wanted to see him cos I knew he would be panicking thinking he was going to leave me and then it was just a complete block I don’t remember anything after that."

Det Superintendent Tom Chisolm, from West Midlands Police, said he hoped the substantial cash reward would encourage those with information to come forward.

He said: "We do know Tom attended the Uberra nightclub in Wednesfield Road, Wolverhampton, with a group of friends.

"On leaving the club there was some pockets of disorder that broke out.

"Unfortunately Tom and his friends were caught up in that disorder.

"We know it involved several groups of people, some arriving in vehicles.

"Tom was fatally stabbed that night, we’ve continued to review the case to this day.

"We’re here today to appeal to people who might have been there at the time and for whatever reason didn’t come forward to come and speak to the team

"There’s a £20,000 reward for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for Tom’s murder.

"Clearly time’s moved on, we’re hoping people who may hold that information, hopefully they’ve matured, they might have families of their own and clearly that of money is a good incentive
