Felix Sherwood, aged 22, used a blade during an argument with his partner’s relative and has paid the price with 12 months behind bars after appearing at Shrewsbury Crown Court.

Sherwood, of Ketley, left his victim with serious injuries that required stitches after the fight in March. Judge Anthony Lowe rejected a request by Sherwood’s barrister to suspend the term due to his age and because he had been provoked.

He told Sherwood that anyone carrying a knife needed to know the consequences if they ended up using it in anger.

The court heard the victim called round to Sherwood’s home, in Holyhead Road, to confront him over alleged violent behaviour towards his partner. He suffered a stab wound to his side and was punched.

Prosecuting barrister Mr Kevin Jones told the court Sherwood was carrying a six-inch steak knife and wrapped around the knuckles of his other hand was a brown belt.

The victim was struck and he found blood pouring from the left hand side of his body, Mr Jones added.

The court heard police were called and Sherwood was discovered hiding behind a gate nearby.

Mitigating barrister Mr Paul Smith said: “The defendant has accepted that he was the one who got the knife out. He’s got a daughter. This is the first time that he has been incarcerated.”

Sherwood, who admitted possession of a knife and wounding, has previous convictions for theft in 2014 and assault for which he received a community order in 2016.

For knife possession he was jailed for 12 months and for wounding three months to run concurrently minus the time already spent on remand in custody.
