The man has been arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life after the fire at Ty Belgrave House in Aberystwyth last Wednesday.

Nine adults and three children were rescued during the blaze, however one guest is still missing.

Dyfed-Powys Police are searching for the guest, and are liaising with the Lithuanian Embassy to trace his next of kin.

The fire is out, however the building will not be made safe until this week as it is currently structurally unsafe.

Detective chief inspector Neil Jenkins said the cause of the fire remains unexplained as investigations continue.

He said: "As a result of our enquiries, a man has been arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life and is currently in police custody in Aberystwyth," he said.

"One man remains unaccounted for following the fire."

He has now called for witnesses in the area between midnight on July 24 and 3am the following morning to come forward.

Many guests escaped over balconies, and the British Red Cross volunteers have given support to those affected.
