Liam Payne, 29, was ordered to pay £155 in fines and given a six-month conditional discharge by magistrates at Telford after pleading guilty to being drunk and disorderly in a public place.

Payne said he had about five pints with his father which led him to being arrested on July 7.

Abigail Hall, prosecuting, said: "At 10.20pm officers were called to the Cheshire Cheese pub in Doseley after the landlady had told Mr Payne to leave the premises and he refused.

"Officers described him as having wide, red eyes, his speech was slurred and he was behaving erratically and abusively.

"He leaned in towards one officer and was shouting expletives at him.

Cage

"At 10.40pm he was arrested and continued to make threats while in the police vehicle and was banging his head on the cage inside the van."

Payne, who lives with his wife and five children said it was a moment of stupidity.

Representing himself, he said: "I'm sorry for what I've done. I don't really go out that much which is why I got so drunk.

"I went out with my dad in the evening and we had about five pints.

"The football was on and that along with the sun made it a stupid thing to do.

"I've got five children who me and my wife both care for."

Chairman Dean Firmin, said: "This has turned out to be an expensive night out.

"If you had have done what the landlady told you and went home, you would not be here today, which is what I'm sure your wife and children would have preferred."
