Manhunt underway for prime suspect in Walsall hit-and-run that left police officer with a punctured lung
Detectives are urgently trying to trace a 51-year-old man after a police officer was left seriously injured in a hit-and-run in the Black Country.
Clover Johnson has been identified as the prime suspect in the hit-and-run, which happened in Walsall earlier this week.
The female officer, 50, remains in hospital with a serious head injury, broken ribs and punctured lung.
The officer was struck by a car after attempting to diffuse a domestic incident in Hatherton Street, Walsall, at around 9am on Thursday.
The car was later found in Thames Road, Bloxwich, and detectives want to speak to Clover Johnson in connection with the incident.
Detective Inspector Chris Fox, from Force CID, said: "This type of violence against someone who is doing their best to protect the public is completely unacceptable.
"The thoughts of the force are with her and we are doing all we can to catch the person responsible.
"We would particularly like to thank those members of the public who tried to assist and came to the aid of the officer after she was injured."
