The youth, who cannot be named for legal reasons, is accused of the murder of Derek Whyteside on June 20 following an incident in Withywood Drive, Malinslee, two days earlier.

The teen denied the offence during a hearing at Stafford Crown Court.

At the hearing two other defendants William John Owens, 41, and Gareth Edward Owens, 39, both of Boulton Grange, Randlay, both denied an offence of affray relating to the same incident.

Mr Whyteside, of Chesterfield Road, Dawley, was found unconscious with head injuries in the street by paramedics at about 4.30pm on June 18.

He was taken to Princess Royal Hospital in Telford before being airlifted to Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham, but he did not survive.

No bail application was made at the hearing on behalf of the teenager, who appeared by video link, and he was remanded in youth detention until the trial on November 5 at Stafford.

The two adult defendants were granted unconditional bail.
