Telford stab victim took revenge with arson attack, jury told
A stab victim hit back at the man who attacked him by setting fire to two cars outside his Telford home, a court has heard.
Waqar Hussain is accused of going to a house in Crescent Road, Hadley, on September 16, 2016, with another male and setting fire to two cars parked outside a house.
Hussain, 26, of Chapel Terrace, Wrockwadine Wood, Telford, denies a charge of arson.
The jury was sworn in at the trial at Shrewsbury Crown Court yesterday and prosecutor Richard Davenport explained how the background to the alleged arson attack began a year previously, exactly to the day.
On September 19, 2015, Hussain was the victim of a violent assault where a group of males were armed with poles.
One man had a knife and Hussain was stabbed.
The defendant in the case wasn't charged with wounding, but with affray and was given a community order.
The prosecution believe Hussain was unhappy that the defendant didn't go to prison, and at around 12.29am a year later, he is alleged to have gone to Crescent Road.
Abusive
Mr Davenport alleged that two men were wearing hoods, and another man sprayed a liquid, believed to be petrol, on and around the cars.
The petrol was then lit, and as this was happening the owner of the property, the defendant in the previous case spotted Hussain and came to the window.
An exchange took place, with Hussain shouting an abusive word, before he and another male fled the scene.
The property owner put the fire out and the fire service was called, with police arresting Hussain at 2am at Trench Services.
Hussain told police he was at home at the time of the incident, before he gave no comment in a second interview.
The jury was shown CCTV footage of the incident. Mr Davenport said that with the incident happening at night there was a risk that lives were in danger.
He added that Hussain argued the allegations have been made because of an ongoing feud between the two families.
The trial continues.
