Man charged with murder after death in hotel blaze

A 31-year-old man has been charged with murder after a fire safety officer was died following a blaze at a hotel in Aberystwyth.

Damion Anthony Harris, of Llanbadarn in Aberystwyth, is due before magistrates in the market town charged with the murder of Juozas Tunaitis.

Mr Tunaitis was staying at the Belgrave House Hotel when a serious fire broke out on July 25.

Dyfed Powys Police said Harris has been further charged with causing grievous bodily harm with intent to another hotel guest.

Mr Tunaitis was working as a contractor at Aberystwyth university at the time of his death and an inquest was due to open yesterday.

Temporary Detective Chief Inspector Neil Jenkins said: “Our thoughts are with the family of Mr Tunaitis at this time, and we will continue to support them through the criminal justice process.”
