Anger as Ludlow Remembrance 'shadow soldier' is snapped in half

Vandals have been blamed for damage caused to a wooden soldier commemorating Ludlow's war dead just days before Remembrance Sunday.

One of Ludlow's 'shadow soldiers', on Whitcliffe Common, was found snapped in half.

Councillor Andy Boddington said it was "utterly abhorrent" while residents took to social media to share their disgust. But others said they hoped the damage was caused by strong winds rather than a deliberate act of vandalism.

Gary Seymour, landlord of the town's Rose and Crown pub photographed the damage this morning.

He said: "I've had a couple of people say it could be the wind but I don't see how it could be.

"It's just some mindless morons."

The Rose and Crown will be hosting a fundraising reception for Royal British Legion members on Sunday after Ludlow's Remembrance parade.
