Warning after hoax calls to emergency services in Shropshire

A hoax call was made to police from a phone box near the Nisa store on Market Street, Oakengates, at 10.15am yesterday.

Donnington Police Safer Neighbourhood Team (SNT) has warned that it is a serious offence and if convicted offenders can face up to seven years in prison.

Donnington SNT tweeted: "999 calls are always followed up, even if we suspect that they may be hoax calls.

"These calls can prevent police from getting to genuine emergencies."

Crews from Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service were also called to reports of a house fire in Severn Street, Shrewsbury, yesterday, but it also turned out to be a hoax.

Three crews from Shrewsbury responded to the call which was made just before 7pm.

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101.
