Two men were arrested shortly afterwards when a car thought to be carrying the perfume attempted to ram a police car and crashed nearby.

The fragrances were stolen from Boots in Wellington at around 12.30am.

It is believed the thieves broke in through the back gates of the shop in New Street and forced the fire exit open.

Police were alerted by the Boots security alarm and soon tracked down the car carrying the suspected thieves, which had a wheelie bin full of perfume inside and crashed after attempting to ram a patrol car.

A 39-year-old man and a 45-year-old man arrested from the car are now spending Christmas Day in custody.

They are thought to be linked to several other burglaries in the Telford area over the last week.

Chief Superintendent Kevin Purcell, of West Mercia Police, said: “We were notified to the alarm going off and sent officers.

"This is an excellent example of an immediate response to an alarm and great police work to recover the stolen property and make the arrests.”
