A Taser was used as police bid to quell trouble in Pattingham on Christmas Day

Nine police cars and a dog unit arrived in Pattingham, between Wolverhampton and Albrighton, after a group 'turned on officers', according to Staffordshire Police.

A Taser and PAVA spray, which is an incapacitant spray similar to pepper spray, were used as officers worked to bring the situation under control.

Police descended on the village in numbers after a call for back-up as the incident escalated.

It is not clear at this stage what sparked the trouble and whether any arrests were made.

The trouble happened on Christmas night in the Moor Lane area.

A Staffordshire Police spokesman said: "Public order in Pattingham, where a group turned on officers with Taser and PAVA used.

"Emergency shout called. With thanks to West Midlands Police Response and West Midlands Police Dogs assistance in coming over the border."

West Midlands Police's force response team tweeted back: "We always look after our colleagues."

Staffordshire Police added: "Due to the border and the areas covered in South Staffs Police patch, our closest back up is often West Midlands Police force response.

"If we hit out emergency button they always come running. Despite the fact we are a different force, we are one team."

One Pattingham resident said on Facebook: "Great finish to Christmas Day. Nine police cars and K-9 van, come on have some respect for your neighbours."
