JAILED: Father beat partner in front of three children
A father who brutally beat up his partner in front of their horrified children has been locked up for nine months.
Hardeep Singh turned violent after returning home drunk on July 24, Wolverhampton Crown Court was told.
Mr Bernard Linnemann, prosecuting, explained: “He was in an aggressive mood and started punching her on the left side of her face.
"She had her two-year-old child with her and her two other children, aged 10 and 14, were also present.”
She asked her eldest son to phone the police but the 31-year-old defendant grabbed the mobile from the boy and smashed it to pieces on the floor.
Singh then put his hand over her mouth but she managed to break free while fighting for breath and made a move for the door followed by the children, continued the prosecutor.
But the defendant managed to grab hold of the woman and flung her to the floor with such force she hit her head hard.
The attacker held his partner down before pulling her into the garden and ordering the woman to light the barbecue.
Her son started to talk to him, giving her a chance to call the police, but Singh warned the family to say nothing to the officers when they reached the scene.
His partner was taken to hospital with head and facial injuries which, fortunately, were not serious, the court heard.
She said: “We used to be a very happy family. I don’t know what possessed him to do this.”
Mr Tariq Shakoor, defending, maintained: “He is a decent, polite, hard-working man when away from alcohol and truly regrets what he has done.”
Singh, from Bell Way, Walsall, admitted assault and was jailed by Judge Michael Challinor who imposed a restraining order banning the defendant from contact with the family and told him: “This offence was both sustained and serious.
"It was aggravated by the fact it took place in the family home in the presence of your children. You also attempted to conceal evidence when the police arrived."
