Revealed: Shocking damage left after Telford man's arrest over street carnage
This is the scene of devastation which led to a Telford man being arrested after a house was wrecked by a car during a chaotic night of violence leading up to the new year.
The carnage also saw a mass brawl break out, a woman being dragged down a street, the car smash into a house injuring an elderly lady inside, another car torched and a police officer attacked.
In what was a chaotic scene in the Russells Hall area of Dudley on New Year’s Eve, police reported:
A brawl involving up to 10 men
A woman attacked and dragged along the floor
An out-of-control Nissan Micra reversing into a house, severely damaging the living room and leaving the two occupants injured
A Ford Fiesta set on fire
Two more people and a police officer attacked
A 20-year-old man from Telford was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and driving while unfit through drink or drugs after the incident in Kestrel Road and Eagle Close shortly before 11pm. A 16-year-old from Dudley was arrested on suspicion of three counts of assault.
At one stage during the fight a Nissan Micra reversed at speed down the street, lost control and careered into a house on Kestrel Road causing significant structural damage.
The 57-year-old householder, who wishes to stay anonymous, suffered injuries to his head, leg and back, while his 80-year-old mother, who also lives at the address, suffered serious leg injuries and needed surgery.
"One moment I was making a cup of coffee for my mum and I and then bang, there was a car in our living room," he said.
"It was just total shock.
"My mum and I were covered in debris, we were both sat on the sofa and it covered up my legs with debris, my mum was almost completely covered.
"We didn't see or hear anything before it happened, the blinds are thick so we couldn't see any car lights headed for us before the crash, it's beyond belief.
"I have a few problems with my leg, and a plaster covering butterfly stitches on my head, I'll be seeing a doctor about my leg soon.
"My mum is stable at the moment, but she's elderly and was unwell anyway, and now this.
"The council will help us clear everything up now, some lads are coming down to help, we need a big clear up."
The man condemned the actions of those who brought chaos on the night of trouble
"I have stronger words to call them, but idiots is what the people are that did this," he said
"I've lived here for 50 years and its always been peaceful and nice.
"There's been the odd trouble in the past but nothing on this scale, and the huge fight that happened down the road."
