Margaret Burd, who has worked at BO Burd and Sons in Church Street, Bishop's Castle, for 58 years, was locking up the shop on Friday, December 28, when a masked robber entered and began demanding money.

However, she stood her ground and the robber only made off with a handful of cheques and a small unknown amount of money.

The shop worker has described her ordeal and how the masked robber came in and pointed an object at her.

She said: “It was over in a few minutes really. I was just about to close the shop when he came from the door and pointed this whatever it was at me.

“He asked me to give him the money out of the till, and I told him 'No, I am not giving you any money'.

“I think I opened the door and shouted to someone outside, but they didn’t hear me.

“Then the person grabbed some cheques and some money, I am not sure how much it was but it wasn’t a lot, and then left.”

Unharmed

The shop worker was unharmed in the incident, and police are appealing for information.

West Mercia Police said the incident happened at around 6pm, and officers want to speak to anyone who has any information regarding the robber.

The victim said she had never experienced this type of incident before, and said she is getting back to normal and going about her daily business in the shop.

She added: “We’ve never had this when someone comes into the shop demanding money, but we have been hit by break-ins in the past.

“You’ve just got to get back to normal, there is no point harping on about it.

“I just hope they catch whoever it was. This was just a small one, but they could commit a large one.”

Anyone with information that could help police with their inquiries is asked to call 101 quoting incident 517s of December 28Mase.
