Telford man admits assault and destroying woman's clothes

A man has admitted assaulting a woman and destroying her clothes.

David Wilkes, 40, committed the offences during an incident, in Telford, on July 20 last year.

The defendant had initially denied assault occasioning actual bodily harm and denied destroying property, but changed his pleas to guilty when he appeared at Shrewsbury Crown Court on Monday.

Ms Lynette McClement, prosecuting barrister, told the court: “This matter was listed for trial today. Also in attendance is the complaint in this case. In discussions with the complainant and the officer in this case, it has been decided that the crown will all accept the pleas.”

Mr Robert Edwards, mitigating, said Wilkes, of Trinity Road, Dawley, had issues with anxiety and depression in the days leading up to the incident. He asked for the matter to adjourned for reports.

He was remanded in custody until January 25 when he will be sentenced.
