Furious MP demands urgent meeting on decision not to review killer's sentence
A furious MP has demanded an urgent meeting with the Attorney General after being left surprised by the decision not to review the sentence of killer John Broadhurst.
The 44-month sentence handed to the millionaire businessman for the manslaughter of his partner Natalie Connolly in Kinver was blasted as 'unduly lenient' by former Labour deputy leader Harriet Harman.
Ms Harman wrote to Attorney General Geoffrey Cox urging him to review the sentence but it has been confirmed that will not happen. The Attorney General's office said he 'was unable to intervene in this case because the sentence given fell within the range available'. She said she was 'bitterly disappointed' by the decision.
Mark Garnier, a former Government minister and MP for Wyre Forest, the constituency where the killing took place, said he wanted answers on the decision.
He said: "I too am disappointed. I’m seeking an urgent meeting with the AG to understand more about this. Not the outcome I was expecting."
Broadhurst, aged 40, was jailed after admitting the manslaughter of Ms Connolly, who he left bleeding to death at the bottom of their stairs at the Kinver home after a 'rough sex session' in December 2016.
The mother-of-one was discovered the following morning with more than 40 injuries, including serious internal trauma, and was more than five times the drink-drive limit.
