Sweets & Treets on Stafford Street, Market Drayton was targeted by burglars on Wednesday night, after previous break-ins in October and May last year.

Owner Sue Nagington discovered broken padlocks and smashed windows at the store on Thursday morning, and said it appeared the thieves had been interrupted this time.

"They hardly took anything this time," said Sue. They must have been disturbed, they left bars of chocolate and bags of sweets on the steps.

"What they got away with this time was a whole box of Aero mint bars and Aero chocolate bars, and I had made up 12 party bags for a lady with 10p sweets and that sort of thing.

"They took seven of those and left five.

"It's getting to be a joke now. It is more the inconvenience of it than anything, and the cost of repairing the window.

"Luckily I have got good friends and family who support me when I need it."

Sue improved the security of the store after the last burglary, installing metal bars, and said she is considering further measures.

In October she said another break-in might mean she would have to shut up shop, but the amount taken this time was negligible so she will be able to continue.

Police are appealing for witnesses, and anyone with information is asked to call 101 quoting incident number 55/S of January 17.

The break-in took place the same night would-be burglars tried to get into the Francesco's hair salon and the Town House restaurant, also in Market Drayton.

The day before burglars had already taken cash and £2,000 worth of gift vouchers from the Town House.
