Shropshire pensioner attacked by bogus police died from natural causes
A Shropshire pensioner who died three days after he was attacked by bogus police officers in his own home is believed to have died from natural causes.
The 74-year-old man, who has not been named by police, suffered a shoulder injury when three men raided his home in Fitzalan Close, Whittington, near Oswestry, at around 8.30pm on November 20 last year.
The crooks were claiming to be undercover police officers and searched the home, before making off with cash and a wallet.
The pensioner was treated for a shoulder injury at hospital and was discharged the following day but died three days later.
At the time it was not known if his death was linked to the robbery, and now West Mercia Police have said they believe his death was due to natural causes.
An investigation into the matter is still ongoing, and a renewed appeal for information has been made, trying to establish the identity of the occupants of a Silver Volvo vehicle that was seen leaving the area at the time of the attack.

A spokesman for the force said: "Police confirmed that the gentleman is believed to have died from natural causes. His family have been updated and continue to be supported by the investigation team.
"A report is being prepared for the coroner. Police continue to investigate the robbery and are following a number of lines of enquiry.
"Police are seeking to identify the occupants of a Silver Volvo vehicle seen in the vicinity of the scene at the time of the attack.
"Police appeal for anyone with any information concerning the incident to come forward quoting crime reference 22/111194/18."

Following the incident back in November, Shropshire Commander Superintendent Mo Lansdale said: "Our thoughts are with the man’s family and friends at this difficult time.
"He has clearly suffered an unpleasant ordeal during the robbery."
