Suspect in court over holidaymaker death in Cyprus
A man faces a trial in March accused of killing a holiday maker in a suspected hit and run in Cyprus last year.
Robert Birch, better known to his friends as Charlie, was struck by a car as he walked along a road in Paphos.
He was with a 32-year-old man at about 2.30am on June 24, 2018, when he was struck.
Mr Birch, from Welshpool, died at the scene.
An official at Paphos District Court confirmed suspect Dimitrios Ilitzidis had a murder charge downgraded to manslaughter at the latest hearing on Tuesday.
He entered a not guilty plea in court and will go on trial in March 12, the court official said.
Mr Birch had been on a family holiday when the incident happened back in June.
At the time, a host of tributes were paid by people in Welshpool, and county councillor Graham Breeze said Mr Birch's death had 'cast a great shadow over the town'.
