Suspected rapist arrested as teenage girl found 'unresponsive' in Shrewsbury

A man has been arrested on suspicion of rape after a 17-year-old girl was found 'unresponsive' in Shrewsbury town centre.

It’s believed the incident happened inside a premises in St John’s Hill before the woman was found at about 11.30pm on Monday by a member of public.

A rape investigation has been launched and a man has been arrested. He is currently in police custody.

Detective Inspector Rich Roberts said: “This was clearly an incredibly distressing incident for the girl involved and we have specially trained officers working with her to offer her support.”

The doorway of Zaza, Johnson & Bath estate agents was taped off by police in the wake of the incident while a car park on the opposite side of the road was also closed until around 10am.

Police officers remained on scene throughout the day.
