Man arrested on suspicion of Shrewsbury rape is bailed

A man arrested on suspicion of rape after a teenager was found 'unresponsive' in Shrewsbury town centre has been released on bail.

The 17-year-old girl was found on St John's Hill by a member of the public at about 11.30pm on Monday.

West Mercia Police confirmed the man has now been released on police bail while investigations continue.

Detective Inspector Rich Roberts said: “This was clearly an incredibly distressing incident for the girl involved and we have specially trained officers working with her to offer her support.”

The doorway of Zaza, Johnson & Bath estate agents was taped off by police in the wake of the incident while a car park on the opposite side of the road was also closed until around 10am.

Police officers remained on scene throughout the day.
