Officers from the Operational Patrol Unit were acting on information that two Land Rovers stolen from the West Midlands were in the county.
After following the 4x4s this afternoon, along the A41 near Tong, one ended up in a hedge while the other was forced on to the grass verge by pursuing police vehicles.
No one was injured in the incident although motorists in the area did experience some delays.
Meanwhile there were delays on the A41 in Newport after a tractor overturned.
