Former Telford policeman 'would have been dismissed' had he not resigned, says misconduct panel
A former Telford policeman would have been fired for gross misconduct had he not already resigned, a misconduct hearing has said.
Former detective constable Robert Hall was subject to a misconduct hearing in relation to allegations of his dishonesty, lack of integrity and discreditable conduct regarding property he should have returned to a previous partner.
The allegations were proven on all counts at the hearing, held at Leek Wootton on April 8 and 9, which gave the finding that he "would have been dismissed" for his actions.
The hearing, attended by former DC Robert Hall and conducted by legally qualified chair, Douglas Readings, follows an investigation by the Warwickshire Police and West Mercia Police Anti-Corruption Unit.
The 37-year-old had completed 16 years of service, most recently based at Telford, before resigning from his position in November 2018.
West Mercia Police said it accepts the decision of the panel, and that the outcome of the hearing is subject to the standard appeals process.
Superintendent Helena Bennett, head of professional standards for West Mercia Police, said: "We expect all our officers and staff to uphold the highest standards of behaviour and the officer in this case has failed to do so."
