Woman who struck Shrewsbury clubber is fined
A Telford woman with a temper has been ordered to pay £500 compensation after she struck a clubber in Shrewsbury with an object in a nightclub.
Sophie Wesley 24, was ejected from Shrewsbury's Buttermarket following the incident on August 27, 2017.
The town's crown court heard that the two women, who knew each other, were on bad terms due to a family dispute.
Police were called to the scene in the early hours after reports of an altercation.
Wesley, of Walcot,Telford, had poured liquid over the victim's head after they exchanged words. The victim retaliated by doing the same to Wesley who then struck her.
The court heard that the victim was left bleeding as a result and was had to be given first aid at the scene.
Wesley previously pleaded guilty to common assault.
Consequences
She was due to stand trial for the more serious offence of assault occasioning actual bodily harm which she denied, but the offence was changed to common assault, which she admitted.
Sentencing her Judge Anthony Lowe said: "There was a tendency of you minimising what happened in order to deal with your own embarrassment. You have a previous caution which suggests that you have a temper and that you react without thinking.
"You have to pay for the consequences of your actions."
He said he was willing to go along with the recommendation of probation's pre-sentencing report.
Wesley was sentenced to a six-month community order subject to attending 10 rehabilitation activity days. She was fined £50 and must also pay £100 costs.
